Back in 2010 this all started as a small project for fun, the game was still at version 1 at that time (link). The only feature the bot had back then was a building queue. When the bot become more popular I decided to make one for Grepolis 2 as well, which was released in 2011.
Starting from the Grepolis 2 release many new features were added, resulting in a nice list of features, automating all the boring/time consuming tasks for us 🙂
It has been a very fun project to work on but it is almost time to move on. I’ll have finished my university later this year (+/- 3 months) and after that I’ll no longer work on the bot.
However, I do have some good news. I’m currently cleaning up the source code and adding additional comments to make everything understandable. As soon as this is process is finished I’ll put the source code on GitHub, it is a wonderful site for open source projects and it allows other developers to easily create their own version of the bot. I recommend all developers to create an account and have a look at the source code when it is available.
The https (ssl) update was originally planned at the end of March but for some reason they decided to postpone it. If the Grepolis developers release the https update after I have published everything on GitHub I’ll still fix it, you don’t have to worry about that 😉 However, after that I hope other developers continue the development.
ps. Because the strong decrease in donations and because it is hard to keep track of this after stopping the development I’ll enable the “donator only” – features for everyone before moving the source code to GitHub.
